Web Info:
Thanks to God the www.needlove.org web site is
happening!
Here are some things to keep in mind about the general public using the
Internet today:
- < 75-80% use dial-up modem (avg. speed > 28.8)
- All are not on latest fastest computer and browsers
- < 20-25% have 600x480 useful viewable screen space
- Only catering to detailed oriented people is how to do things years
ago, others use it today
- Most people are familiar with simple e-mail and messaging systems
- Gradually people are moving to faster & more modern items.
Some of you are thinking, What about the dot-com failures? Well, they
failed because one or more of the following:
- Boring Web Site - they simply put their brochure on the web with
contact information. They forgot that surfers really expect multi-media
(color, video, and sound...) since we are an entertainment culture.
- Tunnel Price Vision - the cost of the product they were selling may
be low for their area but across town or state it is less. For example,
the best price in the area is $350.00 so they price it on the web the
same or better by going to $330.00. Now in the neighboring city or state
it is priced at 250.00 in the local store. It does not take a rocket
scientist to know that people will pay the $250.00 price at their local
store.
- Now Culture - we at least in the United States are a now culture.
We do not want to wait 3-5 weeks to get what we bought. Places that
offer overnight or second day shipping seem to still be around today.
The longer people have to wait for a web page the more likely they are
to go to another web site. Even after about 8-10 seconds, if they can
not click on things some have left the web site.
- Simple is better - most people today using the Internet are used
to simple interfaces like e-mail, messaging systems, and search engines.
Divergence from the simple places several people in the unknown so they
leave.
All of the above and more are strongly considered in the development
of this web site.
Enjoy the experience! :)
